Tempted to use the musical pun of Tiers of a Clown though I am, I’m trying to stay impartial and apolitical here, politics have no place on a wedding website after-all (I didn’t vote for him btw).
So the latest Covid-19 update and re-worked lockdown is coming into play on the 2nd of December incorporating the new system (the wedding was so emotional the whole country is in tiers) of three tiers.
The good news is that after another month of wedding bans (sadly not banns or bands or even band) you may now get hitched again! The bad news is that despite it being safe for 1000 people to gather to watch sport together it is unsafe for 16 people to gather to witness and celebrate a union, at least that’s what we are being told. So we are back to the old 13 guests plus the couple rule. The photographer, celebrant and venue staff are not counted in the numbers.
The only bit that hasn’t quite been made clear is the travel. I predict, based on the previous rules and some sketchy rhetoric on the .gov web site that you will be able to travel from any tier to any tier to get married. See here and under heading of ” Exemptions from gatherings limits in all tiers ” (which makes little or no sense) “to attend a wedding or civil partnership – with no more than 15 people present”
If your wedding venue is in tier 3 then you cannot have a meal/reception
Tiers will be assessed on a two weekly basis and this will continue until March.
My personal hope is that people will be sensible over the festive period and we can reduce the R rate, start 2021 with a low infection rate which alongside track and trace and the three vaccines will enable weddings to increase in capacity to 30 early in the year and be back to 100+ in early spring.
A final word. Don’t lose faith and hope, keep positive about your plans but also don’t compromise, your time will come. Keep in touch with all of your suppliers and if you make any date changes try to be as understanding and flexible as you can, we are all doing our best for you 🙂
